Job Summary

The Laboratory Support Technician is accountable for driving results in a fast-paced environment by assisting the laboratory staff with a wide range of tasks including laboratory housekeeping, glassware washing, equipment setup, and stocking supplies.

On-Site Expectations

  • 100% on-site position.
  • 1st Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Responsibilities

  • Removes dirty and/or broken glassware from the lab areas.
  • Monitors and disposes of hazardous waste.
  • Washes and dries glassware and distributes to appropriate locations in the laboratories.
  • Maintains glass washing areas, keeping them clean and organized.
  • Sterilizes glassware and other items using an autoclave, if required.
  • Assists analysts with tasks such as gathering materials, labeling glassware, disposing of solutions, etc.
  • Ensures all laboratory prepping stations are stocked with supplies.
  • Ensures lab stations clean, organized, and stocked with supplies. Includes cleaning and water exchange of water baths (sonicators, shakers, and dissolutions).
  • Performs monthly checks for expired chemicals and reagents and coordinates timely removal of expired materials.
  • Responsible for the overall inventory management of the laboratory, including purchasing/receiving functions.
  • This position will be required to supervise, handle, or process hazardous waste under Resource and Conservation guidelines promulgated under 40 CFR 262.177(a)(7), Personnel Training. This includes completion of initial and annual RCRA training and documented as required in Alcami records. This training also includes familiarity with emergency response procedures, emergency equipment, and emergency systems.
  • Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology or related Science discipline, or Bachelor’s degree in non-Science-related discipline is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of GMPs or GLPs is preferred. 
  • Basic knowledge of a laboratory environment is desired. 
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and interact with laboratory staff. 
  • Strong oral communication skills. 
  • Good organizational and time management skills               
  • Works well in a team setting.
  • Applies job skills, company policies, and SOPs to complete a variety of tasks.
  • Receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

Travel Expectations

  • Up to 5% travel required.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very quiet. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment for specific job duties to be performed. Such personal protective equipment may include, but not limited to safety eyewear, hearing protection, various types of respirators/breathing apparatus, lab coats, full protective body coverings, various types of gloves, etc. Other tasks involving elevated work may require the use of a body harness and lanyard. Additionally, the employee may be required to operate an industrial vehicle.
