Job Summary

The Director of Strategic Procurement at Alcami is a key leadership role responsible for managing and optimizing the entire procurement lifecycle, including direct and indirect procurement, inventory control, and materials management across multiple Alcami sites. This individual will oversee a geographically distributed team of Procurement Specialists and will drive procurement strategies, supplier performance, and operational excellence to support manufacturing, R&D, and business operations.

This role demands hands-on expertise with SAP S/4HANA, particularly in Materials Management (MM) and its integration with Production Planning (PP), Warehouse Management (WM/EWM), and Sales & Distribution (SD) modules. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environments, with a proven track record of managing complex supply chains and enabling enterprise-wide process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies that align with company objectives and manufacturing requirements.
  • Oversee the sourcing and purchasing of raw materials, equipment, and services while ensuring cost efficiency and quality standards.
  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide procurement strategies aligned with Alcami’s goals, balancing cost, quality, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  • Build and scale a centralized, high-performing procurement function across sites and departments, supporting raw materials, MRO, capital, and indirect categories.
  • Establish robust inventory and materials management practices, ensuring visibility, control, and alignment with production schedules and demand forecasts.
  • Drive supply continuity and mitigate risks related to procurement, inventory, or supplier performance.
  • Lead procurement operations through SAP S/4HANA, ensuring seamless use of MM and integration with PP, WM/EWM, and SD.
  • Leverage ERP and digital procurement tools to manage data, improve workflows, and support analytics-driven decisions.
  • Champion automation and system-driven purchasing workflows, ensuring real-time visibility into spend, lead times, and vendor performance.
  • Build and maintain strategic supplier relationships to ensure reliability, quality, and cost competitiveness.
  • Lead contract negotiations, vendor onboarding, pricing agreements, SLAs, and long-term sourcing arrangements.
  • Conduct regular vendor scorecards and performance reviews to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor supplier risk, compliance, and supply chain disruptions; develop contingency strategies.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders—Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and Compliance—to align procurement with operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure timely sourcing of materials and services to avoid production delays while supporting R&D, validation, and capital initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Finance to manage procurement budgeting, forecasting, and spend reporting.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of procurement professionals across Alcami locations.
  • Set departmental objectives and KPIs focused on service, savings, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all procurement, inventory, and materials activities comply with cGxP, FDA, DEA, and internal SOPs.
  • Represent the Procurement function during audits, client visits, and inspections, responding to inquiries and presenting processes as needed.
  • Drive ongoing improvement initiatives to streamline procurement processes, enhance customer value, and support scalability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business. Preferred degree in Supply Chain Management.
  • 12+ years relevant experience with at least 6+ of those years in management roles directly supervising staff.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or similar certification preferred.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • Previous work experience in a CDMO manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Prior pharmaceutical/industry GMP experience required.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SAP S/4HANA, especially within MM and integration with related modules.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong business acumen.
  • Demonstrated success in managing both direct and indirect spend, and leading inventory/materials management functions.
  • Excellent knowledge of supply chain management including warehousing.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks carefully and on schedule according to standard operating procedures and supervisor’s instructions.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficiency in maintaining automation equipment.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Travel Expectations

  • Up 20-25% domestic travel required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The employee may be required to gain access to lab, manufacturing or clinical areas for inspections or work discussions. The employee is required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment to perform the job duties. Such personal protective equipment may include but is not limited to safety eyewear, various types of respirators/breathing apparatus, lab coats, gloves, etc.
