Job Summary

The job of Engineering Intern was established to help the current organization ensure that projects and related efforts accomplish objectives by planning and evaluating activities and to aid interns learn about pharmaceutical engineering functions. The intern will also learn about cGMPs and OSHA safety requirements. The Engineering Intern will manage capital projects, drive process and program improvement, and spearhead portions of the company’s ESG program.

 

The Alcami Intern Program is a minimum 10-week paid program. Alcami interns are provided hands-on work experience building upon knowledge and skills learned in the classroom. Interns work side-by-side industry leaders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment who are passionate about being part of a team developing life-saving drugs around the world. The program concludes with individual presentations to Alcami leaders.

On-Site Expectations

  • 100% on-site position in Charleston, SC.
  • 1st Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Responsibilities

  • The CHS intern will be focused on the spare parts program and the format parts inventory. An intern could complete the existing inventory, ensure re-order points are established, and enter any spare parts that we have that are not in the electronic system. This would be a great experience for a college student to get some pharma experience, understand CMMS systems, and good documentation and understanding how all that relates to limiting equipment downtime.
  • Other duties as assigned including but not limited to:
  • Work with other engineering groups such as GMP maintenance, non-GMP facilities, and security to:
    • Assist implementing some 5S initiatives within our Lab, warehouse, manufacturing & office areas
    • Office Planning / Space Planning: development and updating seating charts
    • Assist in escorting any onsite vendors we have scheduled.
    • Task to vary by intern but working with these traditional engineering functions will allow the intern to gain knowledge and experience regarding pharmaceutical engineering organizations and tasks.
  • Upon completion of the internship, incumbents will conduct individual presentations to Alcami leaders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a 4-year college or university pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the internship.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good verbal and written communication and documentation skills required.
  • Strong detail orientation and organizational skills required.
  • Good problem-solving and basic trouble-shooting ability required.
  • Willingness to collaborate with other team members.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Follows all safety policies and leads by example a safety-first culture.
  • Produces high quality work products with a focus on first time right.
  • Complies with the company code of conduct, policies, and regulatory standards.
  • Project Management Skills (i.e. budget tracking, schedule development and adherence, project reporting, etc.).
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook.
  • Scheduling Software: Microsoft Project preferred.
  • Knowledge of space utilization.
  • Others: Developing and tracking project budgets, Self-Development.

Travel Expectations

  • Minimal travel between local locations may be expected.

The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment for specific job duties to be performed. Such personal protective equipment may include, but not limited to safety eyewear, various types of respirators/breathing apparatus, lab coats, full protective body coverings, various types of gloves, etc.
